Have you ever walked around looking at manhole covers? If you don’t already, you definitely should, and not only so you don’t fall into one. These humble shields are a gritty canvas for amazing letterforms and monograms that are both functional and badass.

Come hang with us on Friday, September 29th from 6-8 PM at this free in-person public workshop at Principles GI Coffee House in Brooklyn, and let’s make some brand new manhole cover designs!

We’ll start the event by learning about the history and context of manhole covers with a fun lecture by Cecilia Zhang and Olivia Kane. After that, we’ll see a special slideshow featuring manhole covers from around the world! And then learn how to draw your own manhole cover with Cris Hernández!

We’ll provide the paper but bring your favorite mark-making tools (pens, pencils, markers, etc). Bring your friend(s) or fellow type nerd(s) and come hang out!

There will also be a pop up stand from Secret Vegan Kitchen selling delicious food!

* There's no air conditioning in the coffee shop so dress accordingly for the weather.
